Fort Bonifacio History
A premier urban development in Taguig City, Metro Manila, Philippines, Fort Bonifacio, also known as the Bonifacio Global City, or simply, "The Fort", is an important business center and cyber park, boasting a large number of commercial office space and PEZA buildings readily available for rent, lease or sale. Originally known as Fort William McKinley, it was a 25.78 square kilometer military base  presumptuously acquired by the United States government during the American colonial period. Under Exchanges of Notes  No. 0634 and 3385 dated December 5 and 6, 1956, the site was turned over to the Philippine Government in an agreement between then Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Carlos P. Garcia and U.S. Charge de Affairs, Horace Smith. Renamed Fort Bonifacio on May 14, 1949, it then became the headquarters of the Philippine Army. Fort Bonifacio is quickly becoming the Philippines' premier city, as well as a leading central business district (CBD) in Metro Manila. The Fort is also a key investment destination for foreign-based and multinational companies setting up business operations in the Philippines.
